So Tuesday evening I was handing out flyers for an outreach that my church is putting on this weekend. I went to the tough areas around my neighbor, where I knew drug addicts and boozers like to hang out. On one side of the flyer the announment was in english and the other in spanish... I walked up to a group of guys that were smoking a blunt(marijuana cigar) and handed all of them a flyer... They stood there reading them and a couple of them scattered. They all said thank you and asked a couple questions. As I was moving on, a man with scars on his next and all up and down his arms, where he'd been cut with a "big knife" as he put it, came up to me... He said "you know God?" I said yes I do... We began to talk... He would go in and out of crying, pouring out his heart to me... Telling me how he came to America from El Salvador to live the American dream and to get away from all the bad people in Salvador. And how he couldn't believe how evil this world is... Even in America. Pablo told me he never would have imagined himself addicted and lost, the way he was Tuesday before God introduced us. Pablo told me he needed to be locked in a room with nothing but four walls, until he is clean... He told me he had an emptiness inside him. He believed is Jesus and he was a Christian growing up... But he was far from having anything to with God at this point... I told Pablo about Teen Challenge and just so happens that Teen Challenge is helping our church out this weekend. So, he asked me to go with him back to his house and speak with his wife. See, his wife had told him just a few hours before we met that she wanted him to leave. She's 5 1/2 months pregnant with their baby and she feels like she'd rather just do it alone. Pablo had not been a good man to her up to this point... He had let her down. Instead of going to work, Pablo would hang out on the corner drinking and doing drugs every day. Well we continued to talk at his apartment and at about 9:30 that night, Pablo accepted Jesus into his life... And asked for God to make him whole... Pablo went to church Wednesday night. Got to meet several men from Teen Challenge and is wanting to go and get his life right. Pablo told me Wednesday after church, "you know Josh? If I drink today... I might die..." His body was so dehydrated that he would close his hand and he could hardly get it back open. He wasn't able to eat for days because of the drugs and acohol he had put in his body... He neglected his health because of drugs and alcohol, to the point where he actually thought, if he took one more drink, it might kill him. Talk about devine intervention. I firmly believe God put me and Pablo together on Tuesday night. I called Pablo yesterday, and he told me, "I stayed home today, and read the bible all day and prayed more today than i have in years" Pablo is DESPERATE! He told me before we got off the phone, "One day I'm gonna take my bible down there and tell all those guys that I used to do drugs and drink with, about Jesus and what he's done for me!" PRAISE THE LORD!!!! I told him, that i am going to be doing some Evangelism and I wanted him to come with me sometime... He told me, "Oh yes! Anytime you call me, I will go with you anywhere." This is a man that was rock bottom and lost beyond words on Tuesday, and by Thursday he's ready to tell the World about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We all need to be like Pablo! His family is healing and are so excited about what God is doing in Pablo's life! I am too! Pablo is my new friend and I'm proud to say he's gonna be alright... Thank you Jesus!
