"Here at Your feet, I lay my past down; My wanderings, all my mistakes down and I am free. Here at Your feet, I lay this day down; Not in my strength, but in Yours I've found all I need, You're all I need. Here at Your feet, I lay my future down; All of my dreams, I give to You now and I find peace, I find peace. Here at Your feet, I lay my life down..."
Powerful words. Difficult to say, and even more difficult to do. It's so hard to render control of your life to someone else, even when they're better equipped to handle it. It's like having to hand the keys of your Aston Martin over to Jeff Gordon. Sure, he's a professional driver, trained to handle cars, but that doesn't mean it's any easier to give up control of your car. God created us, and He knows how every second of our lives will play out before it happens. He knows what to do when the bumps in the road come up. He even knows what to do when that tornado comes tearing through our lives. What may seem like a disaster to us is nothing more than a brief hindrance to Him. So why is it so hard to just let go? Well, because we're only human. We strive for control; it makes us feel safe. We need to be in control of our lives, because if anyone else was, it'd be a mess. Haha. Guess what? Usually when we tell that to ourselves, we're already at a point of distress in our lives. I know I have trust issues. I'd be the first to admit that I'd totally mess up my life before I'd be willing to ask for help. And sometimes that's what it takes. We wrestle God for the control of our lives, of the future... We're like drowning people, struggling in the waters of life. It's so hard to keep our heads above water, and all our burdens are dragging us down. And then Jesus our Lifeguard comes around. But a lifeguard can't save someone who's wildly thrashing about. Sometimes He just has to sit back and watch us struggle until we're too tired to fight anymore, and that's when He comes and wraps His arms around us and takes us back to shore. God is loving, and He wants to work our lives, but He never uses force. We have to be willing for Him to help us; we have to stop fighting Him, and let Him wrap His arms around us. We need to let go of the burdens weighing us down, get rid of the pride that stands between us and Him, stop thrashing wildly about for something to hold onto when nothing is there, and wait for Him to move in and save our lives. See, the longer we thrash about, the longer it is before He can come save us; the more we fight ourselves and our circumstances, the closer we come to drowning. Surrender now. Give up the keys and let the professional take control. The funny thing about professionals is that they can take our standard equipment and make it do things we never knew it could do, never knew was possible. Let God take your life, and let Him do the impossible. On your own, you'll be drowning. With God, you can walk on water...
